About the event
HIKING INFO (how long will the hike into the project site be, and what sort of terrain):
We will begin brushing from the trailhead. Moderate difficulty for hiking. Slight incline and uneven, muddy/rocky terrain.
SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY OR WEEKEND:
Meet at the Upper Huffman Trailhead by 9am, review safety documents and project overview, gather tools for the trail. Spend the entire event on the trail and return to the trailhead by 3pm.
WHAT IT TAKES (any sort of previous experience or physical ability, age restrictions, etc):
Work will be strenuous at times and volunteers must come prepared with food and water for the day. We will not be returning to the trailhead for lunch. Volunteers MUST be prepared with appropriate attire (including sturdy boots, work gloves, eye protection) and safety gear.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Long Pants (you may stain them with dirt)
Long Sleeves (suggested)
Sturdy Work Boots (NOT sneakers)
WHAT TO BRING:
Food (lunch and snack)
Water bottles for a whole day on the trail (recommend 1 gallon)
Work Gear:
o Work Gloves
o Rain Gear, Warm layers, bug spray, sunscreen
o Eye Protection (sunglasses)
o Bear spray
o Backpack (lunch, food, water for the day)
Alaska Trails will provide hand tools:
- Loppers, folding hand saws, pruning shears, shovels, pulaskis, pick mattocks, mcleods, PPE (hardhats, eye pro, gloves)
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
Dogs
Children
Firearms (not a substitute for bear spray at volunteer events)
DIRECTIONS/ADDRESS/NAME OF TRAILHEAD:
Volunteers will meet at Upper Huffman Trailhead (To access the trail head, drive up Upper Huffman and take a left at the T. The road will dead end at the trailhead) at 9am. After introductions, discussing the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and gathering tools, we will begin hiking from the trailhead and begin brushing.
