Federal Appropriations Funding for AKLT
Since 2022, $11.9 million has been secured for the Alaska Long Trail through federal appropriations with support from Senator Lisa Murkowski.
FFY22:

Chugach National Forest: $5.77 million for maintenance, construction, and restoration on portions of the Iditarod trail. This funding allowed for the construction of four bridges and several segments of trail in the Turnagain Pass area.
FFY23:

Chugach National Forest: $2.348 million to construct and improve recreational trails and access on the Iditarod National Historic Trail. Construction of two bridges and several trail segments between Seward and Turnagain Pass are underway summer '23 and '24.

Denali Borough: $2.18 million for design and engineering of a section of pedestrian pathways along the Parks Highway corridor in the Denali Borough to provide safe pedestrian access to Denali National Park and Preserve and Denali frontcountry.

BLM: $1 million to complete a National Scenic Trail feasibility study to connect Seward and Fairbanks via a trail system.
FFY24:

Denali Borough: $640K for design and construction of a section of pedestrian pathways along the Parks Highway corridor in the Denali Borough to provide safe pedestrian access to Denali National Park and Preserve and Denali frontcountry.
